Effective date: 1 July 2025
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) constitute a legally binding agreement between you (the “Client”, “you”) and My Life Therapy, operated by Janet Hill, a registered psychotherapist practising in the United Kingdom (“we”, “us”, “our”). They govern your access to and use of our website [domain] (the “Site”) and all online psychotherapy, counselling and related services (collectively, the “Services”). Please read them carefully. By accessing the Site, scheduling or attending a session, or otherwise using the Services, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to be bound by these Terms.
Important disclaimer – NOT an emergency service
If you are in crisis or feel you may harm yourself or others, dial 999 (UK) or contact your local emergency services immediately. The Services are scheduled, non‑emergency psychotherapy sessions and do not provide emergency, crisis‑intervention or acute psychiatric care.
1. Eligibility
1.1 You must be 18 years of age or older and legally capable of entering into binding contracts to use the Services.
1.2 By booking a session, you warrant that the personal information you provide is accurate and complete, and that you have the right to use any payment method supplied.
2. Nature and Scope of the Services
2.1 The Services consist of online psychotherapy sessions delivered via secure video‑conferencing, telephone or asynchronous messaging, as agreed. The approach, frequency and duration of treatment are determined collaboratively during assessment.
2.2 The Services are not a substitute for medical diagnosis or treatment by a GP, psychiatrist or other health‑care professional. You are responsible for consulting appropriate medical professionals for any physical or psychiatric conditions.
3. Booking, Fees and Payment
3.1 All session times are displayed in the Europe/London time zone unless stated otherwise.
3.2 Fees are £55.00 per 50‑minute session unless we agree another rate in writing. We may review and adjust fees annually; any change will be communicated with at least 30 days’ notice.
3.3 Payment is due at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled start time via the payment methods offered on the Site. Sessions not paid in advance may be cancelled.
4. Cancellation & Rescheduling
4.1 You may cancel or reschedule a session up to 48 hours before the start time with no charge.
4.2 Cancellations made within 24 hours of the session start time, or non‑attendance (“no‑show”), are charged at the full session fee.
4.3 We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule a session for unforeseen circumstances (e.g. illness, technical failure). Where possible, we will offer an alternative time. If no suitable alternative is available, any pre‑paid fee will be refunded.
5. Confidentiality & Data Protection
5.1 We are committed to maintaining your confidentiality in accordance with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework and the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR).
5.2 Your personal data will be processed only for the purposes of providing the Services, administering your account, and meeting our legal obligations. Please refer to our Privacy Notice for further details.
5.3 Exceptions to confidentiality include situations where:
• we believe you or a third party is at serious risk of harm;
• we are compelled by a court order or statutory duty; or
• you provide consent to disclose.
6. Technology & Security
6.1 Sessions are delivered using end‑to‑end encrypted platforms (e.g. Zoom). You are responsible for ensuring you have a stable internet connection, a private environment, and up‑to‑date anti‑virus software.
6.2 You agree not to record, screenshot or otherwise capture any part of a session without prior written consent. We will not record sessions unless we have your explicit written consent.
7. Intellectual Property
7.1 All content on the Site, including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, and downloadable resources, is our intellectual property or that of our licensors and is protected by UK and international copyright laws.
7.2 You may download and print materials for your own personal use only. You may not reproduce, distribute or create derivative works without our written permission.
8. Limitation of Liability
8.1 Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under English law.
8.2 Subject to 8.1, our total liability to you for any loss or damage arising out of, or in connection with, these Terms or the Services (whether in contract, tort or otherwise) shall not exceed the total fees paid by you in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
8.3 We shall not be liable for any indirect or consequential loss, including loss of profit, data, reputation or business opportunity, arising from use of the Services.
9. Complaints
9.1 If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of the Services, please raise the matter promptly by emailing janet@itsmylifetherapy.com. We will aim to acknowledge complaints within 3 working days and to resolve them within 28 days.
9.2 If you remain unhappy, you may escalate the complaint to the BACP under its Professional Conduct Procedure.
10. Termination
10.1 You may terminate therapy at any time by notifying us in writing (email is sufficient). Outstanding fees remain payable.
10.2 We may terminate therapy where: (a) clinical appropriateness warrants a different form of support; (b) fees remain unpaid; or (c) you breach these Terms. We will, where possible, offer appropriate referrals.
11. Changes to These Terms
11.1 We may amend these Terms from time to time, for example to reflect legislative changes or to improve clarity. Updated Terms will be posted on the Site with the revised effective date. Continued use of the Services after that date constitutes acceptance of the changes.
12. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
12.1 These Terms and any dispute or claim arising out of them are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
12.2 The courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction, except that you or we may seek interim injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction.
13. Entire Agreement
13.1 These Terms, together with the Privacy Notice and any written therapeutic contract we agree, constitute the entire agreement between you and us and supersede any previous discussions or agreements.
